A photographer and a painter, Jeannette Williams has recently been working on a series of whimsical paintings depicting dogs (and a few cats) in trucks, trailers, and cars in the southwest landscape.

“Dogs often take on the characteristics of their owners and are much less complicated than people,” she says. “One of my paintings focuses on my neighbor, who looks like Jerry Garcia, with his two English sheepdogs. My neighbor would often drive down the street together with his dogs in a small BMW. The three all look like dogs because each has long, white hair blowing in the wind.”

Williams received a BA in design from San Jose State University in California and her MA from UNM. Williams taught design, drawing, airbrush, and photography at Highland and La Cueva high schools. Her work has been shown in exhibits around the country, and is in New Mexico Capitol Art Collection and the El Paso Museum of Art collection.
